Tucked in the small city of Warfield, VA, Browntown Farms has been making a name for themselves for quite some time. They farm about 4 acres a year with a variety of produce and value added products. Browntown is a hub for agrotourism and fresh produce including farm events, pick your own strawberries, and on farm sales. The farmland has been in the family since 1908 when the family began tobacco farming. After sitting idle for over a decade, Herb Brown Jr. and Sr. have now revamped the farm and plan to be more innovative than ever before. They plan to build a new distribution facility that will include a store front for onsite sales. The goal of this is to provide their community with options for fresh produce and different ways to access it. They plan to use their recent grant from the Virginia Food Access Investment Fund to help bring them closer to those goals. Local Food Hub is excited to partner with Browntown Farms as they move towards produce aggregation and GAP certification.
