Pop Son Farm
Southampton County, VA, USA
Elisha Barnes of Pop Son Farm is a fourth-generation peanut farmer in the small town of Branchville, Virginia. Barnes farms two locations totaling 36 acres, one of which was bought by his father sometime before World War II. On this land his family sustained itself raising everything from animals to produce. Elisha worked hard to keep this family land and continues to work with his family to maintain them. With an automotive and diesel mechanic degree, as well as education in plumbing, brick laying, and carpentry, Elisha wears various hats around the farm. His biggest hat is the peanut farmer. Elisha has perfected a sun curing peanut process that makes Pop Son Farm peanuts sweet and tastier. Partnering with Hubbard Peanut Company and others, the farm supplies these niche peanuts to retailers in wholesale. He has also participated in wildflower, soil enhancement, greenhouse, and other programs to increase and diversify his operation. In addition to the peanuts Pop Son farm plans to offer a small variety of produce and is willing to take wholesale orders. Produce will also be sold at Franklin Farmers Market, Murfreesboro farmers market, and by appointment right on farm.
